Summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - Grand Admiral Thrawn faces the ultimate test of his loyalty to the Empire in this epic Star Wars novel from bestselling author Timothy Zahn。

"If I were to serve the Empire, you would command my allegiance。"

Such was the promise Grand Admiral Thrawn made to Emperor Palpatine at their first meeting。 Since then, Thrawn has been one of the Empire's most effective instruments, pursuing its enemies to the very edges of the known galaxy。 But as keen a weapon as Thrawn has become, the Emperor dreams of something far more destructive。

Now, as Thrawn's TIE defender program is halted in favor of Director Krennic's secret Death Star project, he realizes that the balance of power in the Empire is measured by more than just military acumen or tactical efficiency。 Even the greatest intellect can hardly compete with the power to annihilate entire planets。

As Thrawn works to secure his place in the Imperial hierarchy, his former protégé Eli Vanto returns with a dire warning about Thrawn's homeworld。 Thrawn's mastery of strategy must guide him through an impossible choice: duty to the Chiss Ascendancy, or fealty to the Empire he has sworn to serve。 Even if the right choice means committing treason。

Praise for Thrawn: Treason

"Another excellent addition to the new canon 。 。 。 Thrawn: Treason will reward you thoroughly for your time。"--GeekMom

"If you've ever enjoyed a Thrawn story--whether that was Heir to the Empire and its sequels or Zahn's new novels--you'll find more of what you enjoy in Treason。"--Dork Side of the Force

A week of beach reading to break up my trivia training。 I kicked this off with a Star Wars palette cleanser。 The books of Timothy Zahn are easily better than anything the shameful Disney corporation pumps to the big screen。 When will they adapt these things? This entry closes out the "new" Thrawn trilogy。 It is definitely not as good as the "old" Thrawn trilogy but it is still the top tier of Star Wars reading。 A week of beach reading to break up my trivia training。 I kicked this off with a Star Wars palette cleanser。 The books of Timothy Zahn are easily better than anything the shameful Disney corporation pumps to the big screen。 When will they adapt these things? Quite entertaining。 Some nice payoffs from reading the other recent Thrawn novels。 Zahn turns out a well-crafted story that is fun to read。

Mike

Entertaining read the ties in well with the overall Star Wars cannon and story。 Continues to develop the character of Thrawn well。

This series definitely got better as it went on! Great work by Timothy Zahn。

Great read and interestingI liked the story as a whole but the ending seemed rushed。 Of particular interest is how the mindset of Thrawn works。 It was extremely important and useful。 Timothy Zahn has done a great service to the star wars universe。

As always from Zahn: great writing; great plot。Unfortunately, a 5 star writer is forced to write in the confines of limited creativity due to the evil Disney 🤬🤬As a result, this end to the trilogy is lacking the crescendo is warrants and feel relatively self contained。Additionally, it feels very ‘small stakes’ and drags a bit in the middle。But other than that it is good for what it is。🥺

All the more brilliance and figuring out how to deal with the threats in the galaxy while serving the Empire。。。 always great to have such detailed color into a character so loved in the galaxy far far away。

Sadie

I just need more Thrawn content please and thank you。 Also Eli Vanto。 I love that funky little data cowboy。

These Treason ReviewVery good book just like the previous novels would highly recommend and I will definitely be getting the next book in the series。

4,5 stars I enjoyed how there was a change in perspective throughout the novel BUT it didn’t happen so often that it disturbed the flow (and I love it for that)。 By far my favorite of the trilogy, really interesting plot and introduction of new bad*ss characters (Admiral Ar’alani represent)。 The constant questioning of Thrawn’s loyalties throughout the novel really kept me on edge and made me speed through it。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 A good read, definitely more enjoyable than book 2。 I enjoyed learning a little more about the Chiss and watching Ar’lani work with Thrawn。 Some good concepts here and the story line was great。 Thrawn’s tactical prowess is quite incredible。The other characters introduced here were also interesting and had some depth to them。 Ronan was the obligatory ‘Thorn in Thrawn side’ that he had to endure, seemingly a different one in each bookGood read, enjoyed it

Excellent conclusion to this trilogy! Thrawn continues to fascinate me, and I love how this series gives insights into Emperial politics and mystery surrounding the Death Star project。I enjoyed learning more about Chiss and finally meeting new characters from the Ascendancy。This book ends with Thrawn departing for his final appearance in Rebels so it’s the end of his story for now, but I’m excited to read the other Thrawn series that are out there!Blog | Instagram Excellent conclusion to this trilogy! This book really is a true successor to the original Thrawn trilogy, the writing and characters are absolutely amazing and the plot is great。

A much better book than Alliances! Much more politics and intrigue。 However, I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as the first。

Thrawn is such a good character! This story, perhaps unsurprisingly, deals with the idea of treason within the Empire, and loyalty。It also name drops some characters from the Rebels TV series and hints that there is more to come with those Rebels in the future。This is my 6th Thrawn book by Timothy Zahn and I look forward to what happens in the next series!

Treason was certainly better than the second book in this series。 It brought new perspectives to characters we had come to know from the previous books。 My only complaint is that it took a little too long to get to what I love about Thrawn。 This being the tactical mastermind and the slow reveal of his brilliance and wit。

It’s been really hard to focus on reading or even listening to audiobooks while in the hospital。 With the swelling in my face and eyes going down I was finally able to finish this one。 Should have plenty of time to catch up on my crazy book goal for the year as I recover over the next few months。

Not gonna lie, at some point Thrawn just kind of became a Star Wars version of Sherlock Holmes / Star Trek's mirror universe Spock hybrid in my mind。 That's not a bad thing, I just think it's worth mentioning。Really liked this book。 It felt more contained and solid than the previous two。 Not gonna lie, at some point Thrawn just kind of became a Star Wars version of Sherlock Holmes / Star Trek's mirror universe Spock hybrid in my mind。 That's not a bad thing, I just think it's worth mentioning。Really liked this book。 It felt more contained and solid than the previous two。 。。。more

A very good and fun story。 I thought it was the last in the trilogy but seems to leave the door open for another book。 I very much look forward to continuing this saga。 I always thought the Jedi were formidable, but I am finding that I am becoming more and more of a fan of this character and how he can go toe-to-toe with the likes of Vader and the Emperor。 Would recommend!

I took far too long to finish this, but it may have been my favorite of the three。The trilogy was decent, but the treatment of Thrawn was superb, and I’m very much looking forward to Zahn’s prequel trilogy books。

As I did with the first two in the series, I listened to the audiobook version of Thrawn: Treason。 The production value was once again top notch。 As for the text itself, Treason pays off many of the promises made in books 1 and 2, although not always in the spectacular fashion for which I hoped。 Thrawn is, as usual, the most entertaining and endearing character in the story and you can tell Zahn knows this guy inside and out。 There is some interesting material prefacing Rogue One, the series fin As I did with the first two in the series, I listened to the audiobook version of Thrawn: Treason。 The production value was once again top notch。 As for the text itself, Treason pays off many of the promises made in books 1 and 2, although not always in the spectacular fashion for which I hoped。 Thrawn is, as usual, the most entertaining and endearing character in the story and you can tell Zahn knows this guy inside and out。 There is some interesting material prefacing Rogue One, the series finale of Rebels, and perhaps future Star Wars stories, as well。 When the plot first began to unfold I anticipated a disappointing read, since the initial challenge Thrawn faces has very low stakes。 Things picked up quickly, though, leading to events on a much grander scale by the book’s end。 The story’s greatest strength is the insight it gives the reader into the lives and perspectives of imperial personnel, demonstrating that even in evil empires there are everyday people who admire and even love their brothers and sisters in arms。The book’s weaknesses are the same as those in the previous installments。 Zahn sometimes gets caught up in world-building and elaborate battle strategies at the expense of story。 The plot can slow to a sluggish pace at times, usually while some complex technological or strategic scenario is playing out。 On screen these scenes would be snappy and dazzling, but without the aid of visuals they eat up pages of text and long chunks of audio。 The mysteries in the book are often unsatisfying, since Zahn waits until the solution to the mystery is revealed before he explains the rules that make that solution possible。 There is a surprise antagonist whom the protagonists unmask near the climax, but that antagonist’s motivations seemed silly to me and not enough to motivate the drastic actions the antagonist takes。 Overall, this was entertaining and added some exciting elements to Star Wars lore。 It just does not quite make it to the heights I expected this new trilogy to reach。 。。。more

More like 3。5 stars。Thrawn: Treason by Timothy Zahn is book three and the final of the Thrawn Trilogy set。 After loving the first but being underwhelmed with the second, I’m looking for this trilogy set to end with a bang。 While I love reading about Thrawn, I found that the problem, if you can call it one, is that he is just too perfect。 Most new readers like myself were likely surprised at the Empire recruiting such a perfect soldier and villain like Thrawn。 It’s insane to think that someone on More like 3。5 stars。Thrawn: Treason by Timothy Zahn is book three and the final of the Thrawn Trilogy set。 After loving the first but being underwhelmed with the second, I’m looking for this trilogy set to end with a bang。 While I love reading about Thrawn, I found that the problem, if you can call it one, is that he is just too perfect。 Most new readers like myself were likely surprised at the Empire recruiting such a perfect soldier and villain like Thrawn。 It’s insane to think that someone on the other side of the war had to face someone of Thrawn’s magnitude。 However, because that hasn’t happened yet in this series, it goes without saying that it’s not as fun to read any longer。“He commands only the loyalty of my actions, not the loyalty of my heart and mind。” – Admiral ThrawnTreason pits Thrawn in another tough situation where him and his crew of The Chimera needs to solve a certain problem or else lose funding to his TIE Defender project。 A new conspiracy is uncovered and from there it’s Thrawn against the race of time to uncover it。 As we’d all come to expect by now, Thrawn has the ability to turn a hopeless situation into a winning endeavor due to his insane prediction skills and to always stay two and three steps ahead of the enemy。It’s great to see a new Chiss character in Admiral Ara’lani get introduced as I was hoping to glean more information about their mysterious race but she seems like just a female version of Thrawn and felt like she served as just filler material throughout the book。 The reemergence of Eli Vanto was very much needed and refreshing however。 I loved the first book in the trilogy and reading the adventures between Thrawn and Eli as they rise through the military rankings of the Empire was exciting。“Without full knowledge, a person has to rely on trust and hope。 Insufficient hope usually comes out as concern。” – Eli VantoThe external threat facing Thrawn and his crew is once again in my opinion lackluster。 It undoubtedly speaks of more dangerous things to come in the future regarding both to the Empire and to the Chiss but it’s just not that exciting to read about for now。 The internal threat to Thrawn will always be due to his lack of political skills when dealing with his comrades。 In opinion, book two should have been called Treason and book three here be called Alliances。In the end, what I ultimately came to understand after having read this trilogy set is that you simply don’t bet against Thrawn。 He’s usually right。 That makes for a fearsome enemy but not an exciting read, especially when he’s not up against the main foe but merely cannon fodder。 Treason did well to redeem the author from Alliances but not enough to overcome the first。 Fortunately the author released a new Thrawn series that serves as a prequel of how he came to be and that in my estimation would likely be more to my liking。 。。。more

Timothy Zahn doesn’t disappoint。 This is another solid book featuring one of the most intriguing characters in the Star Wars universe。 Thrawn’s reinstatement in the “Disney version” of the Star Wars canon has renewed my interest in the whole franchise。

Edit: had to bump my rating down a star when I realized this book is a rogue one tie-inAdmiral Dommy Mommy is here so no complaints。 When she’s inevitably cast for live action, I hope the voice is still provided by Marc Thompson。I was also very overjoyed to see the Eli from the first book

I did enjoy this book。 I think it was not as strong as it's predecessor。 I may also be at a disadvantage as I have not seen Rebels which this seems to be referencing。 Overall, all of Zahn's books have been entertaining, and I will keep reading them。 I did enjoy this book。 I think it was not as strong as it's predecessor。 I may also be at a disadvantage as I have not seen Rebels which this seems to be referencing。 Overall, all of Zahn's books have been entertaining, and I will keep reading them。 。。。more

FINALLY I HAVE CONQUERED THE BEAST THAT IS THIS SERIESYes, yet again the Thrawn books have proven themselves to be a challenge that I am definitely not built to conquer, but that doesn't mean I won't try (and ultimately fail)! After a MONTH of reading the last installment in this series, I finished completely satisfied with how the story wrapped itself up, or left it open for that pivotal last season of Rebels, depending on how you see it and where you are in the Star Wars current canon。 I belie FINALLY I HAVE CONQUERED THE BEAST THAT IS THIS SERIESYes, yet again the Thrawn books have proven themselves to be a challenge that I am definitely not built to conquer, but that doesn't mean I won't try (and ultimately fail)! After a MONTH of reading the last installment in this series, I finished completely satisfied with how the story wrapped itself up, or left it open for that pivotal last season of Rebels, depending on how you see it and where you are in the Star Wars current canon。 I believe my favorite thing about this series as a whole is how it somehow tackled the double-duty task of humanizing everyone's favorite Chiss Grand Admiral and still managed to keep him at that lofty level of detachment and mystery。 Even just getting a flicker of a smile from Thrawn in these books is a super rare occurrence, so that touching ending moment with Faro just melted my heart into a sad little puddle。 I know, I know, "he's a grand admiral of the Imperial Navy, Olivia, he's evil!" BUTTTT how can he be evil with a moment like that? Plus, let's not forget all those special moments with Eli, who I was so thrilled to see returned to the series。 I am so happy they pursued a series for such a dynamic character like Thrawn, who is so shrouded in intrigue and seems to have no true alliances, and with Timothy Zahn at the helm, no less。 I mean, I may be biased seeing as Thrawn is easily my favorite character in Rebels and is in my top 5 favorites in the entire canon, but can ya blame me? Taking a break from Thrawn for now to start making a dent in my to-read list, but I will return shortly, I'm sure。 Solid 4 1/2 stars, just missing that extra half because I am a dummy and still can't fully grasp military jargon and written description of battle maneuvers。 。。。more
